May Monthly Needs
Thank you for your interest in helping our sewing students!
Here's a list of our specific monthly needs that are not currently being met by our student sponsorships.
We're currently seeking 15 vintage electric metal sewing machines for our new Port-de-Paix class. Our students will convert these electric sewing machines into treadle sewing machines that do not require electricity (since we do not have electricity).
There are many vintage sewing machines on Ebay ranging in price from $100 - $200. Since shipping to Haiti is costly, we want to be sure that the machines we send can definitely be converted, so we are only seeking external belt-driven motor machines at this time.
We're in need of 50 - 75 new or gently-used plastic storage bags. We're going to use these to pack fabric and other sewing supplies on the cargo ship, and they'll also be used in the classroom for storage. We generally pack our sewing supplies in barrels when we ship, and putting the fabric and supplies in these bags will ensure that they stay clean and dry.
We can use vaccum storage bags or heavy duty vinyl storage bags. Both of these items are available on Amazon, and many other retailers. If you are interested in purchasing some for us and having them shipped directly to us (or donating some), please contact us some we can give you our shipping address. We're also accepting donations toward the purchase of these bags. Please write "storage bags" in the notes of the online donation, or on the memo line of any checks.
Our students LOVE working with denim! It's hard to find denim in the areas where we work in Haiti, so we purchase the denim in the U.S., and ship it to our students. In-kind or monetary gifts of denim are much appreciated.
